This diagram shows the central and rear mechanisms of a bicycle and labels the components involved in motion. In analyzing each component, the viewer can extrapolate how the turning of bicycle pedals generates motion in the wheels and propels the bicycle forward.
First, the rider pushes down on the pedal. The activation of the pedal moves the crank, which in turn sends the front sprocket rotating in a clockwise direction. Next, the teeth of the front sprocket engage the links of the chain, and the clockwise rotation of the front sprocket initiates a counter-clockwise rotation of the chain. The chain, consequently, causes clockwise rotation of the cogs, which are connected to the rear wheel of the bicycle. The clockwise rotation of the wheel counteracts friction against the ground, and thus, the bicycle begins to move forward!
Simplified, this diagram shows the basic mechanisms of rotation that are responsible for the joy of bike riding.

I agree that cities should set aside more green space for parks and gardens. Parks make cities more attractive, and they encourage people to get outside and to exercise. They also make cities more ecologically friendly, which is important for both people and for the environment.
Who doesn’t love to sit under a shady tree and feel the grass between their toes? Parks bring a little bit of the beauty of nature into cities that can otherwise look cold and uninviting. In turn, this increases the quality of life for citizens and makes the city more appealing and attractive for tourists. Being exposed to beauty and nature has been shown to have a positive effect on people’s moods and also their work productivity.
Creating more parks also encourages people to be healthy. In addition to the psychological benefits, people will have more health benefits if they have somewhere to jog, walk, ride bicycles, and play sports. Physical activity is an important part of good health, and having access to a fresh, beautiful park will help people to live longer, happier, healthier lives.
Parks are also important for making a city environmentally friendly. They create habitats for birds, animals, and insects. They improve air quality and help regulate water drainage. They help reduce the disruptive influence of cities on wildlife, like in the case of migratory birds. In my hometown, birds used to stop over in the nearby fields when they needed to rest and drink water. When the city grew, they didn’t have a place to stop anymore. Building more parks gives them a place to rest and reduces the disruption of animals’ lives.
Thus, I am in full support of creating more parks in cities. Many people around the world have already seen the aesthetic, health, and environmental benefits of beautiful parks and I hope they will continue to build more and more.
